alenka mali

a conversation with alenka mali! we chat about all things filmmaking, snowboarding, base jumping, guiding, life rhythms, other jobs & what her calendar looks like the rest of the year!

watch her most recent film the beginning here: https://www.alenkamali.com/the-beginning-film-2024-alenka-mali/

alenka is truly carving her own line through the mountains—and the film industry. a professional snowboarder, filmmaker, photographer, and mountain guide-in-training, she is shaping stories that center women, wilderness, and adventure. whether she’s traversing the spearhead, organizing all-female retreats in patagonia,, alenka lives at the intersection of the most pure action and creative vision!

after a successful freeride snowboarding career, alenka experienced a personal shift away in the sport. the fleeting high of competition wins gave way to a desire for more enduring impact. she transitioned from the fast-paced world of competition to focusing on creative and meaningful projects, blending her snowboarding skills with storytelling through film and photography.

this shift led her to direct and star in the beginning, a film recently released, and to work on her next ambitious project: whatever it takes, an all-female splitboard film shot across british columbia and patagonia. the film includes segments on biking, climbing, and base jumping—reflecting the multi-sport life she and the other womens in the film lead.

lux snow, another fun project from alenka, hosts all-women backcountry retreats in argentina, costa rica, canada and mexico. these experiences combine snowboarding, yoga, nourishing food, and meaningful connection in remote, wild places.for more info on the retreats look here!  https://lux-snow.com/

alenka's life is full of  constant motion, creativity, and fun! her advice: do something hard every day to stretch your limits! No better advice to start off the week :) make sure to give this episode a listen! have a fantastic monday!
